Boreal Grant for Escuela FLORA
Escuela FLORA is the continuation of FLORA’s Artist-in-Residence Program. In a recently completed building adjacent to FLORA, we will have 12 studios for artists, all of whom will participate in Escuela FLORA, an Independent Study Program. The guest professors—well-known artists, curators and theorists, both international and local—will conduct studio visits for each participant, and offer a theoretically focused seminar. This program, rooted in studio practice, will be complemented by open lectures, workshops, site visits and a seminar structured around key texts for producing and interpreting contemporary art, with an emphasis on the art from Latin America.
The studios will be housed on the building’s top three floors. A new library, double the size of the current one, will occupy the ground floor. This flexible space, designed by Brazilian artist Daniel Acosta, will function as a reading room, auditorium and classroom for Escuela FLORA.
Escuela FLORA is proposed as a space for research through artistic practice. A common theme will frame the monthly modules, each of which will consist of a bi-weekly reading seminar, two weeks of studio visits and seminars, and a site visit or workshop.

BOREAL GRANT
The Boreal Grant will be given to a Danish artist or curator (or living in Denmark for the past 5 years).
The grant will start in THE SECOND SEMESTER 2016 and last until December 2016.
The costs are:
$6.000 USD for the studio, program, and stipend
$2.100 USD ($350 USD x 6 months) for housing
$1.000 USD for airline ticket (estimated)
Total: $9.100 USD, around DKK 61,000 for 6 months

Many of the talks, seminars and studio visits will be done in Spanish, so a working knowledge of the language is preferable.
The selected artist must get the appropriate visa to stay in Colombia for six months. FLORA will provide a letter confirming acceptance to the program.
The Boreal grant includes:
– A studio, with utilities included, for six (6) months, from June to December 2016.
– Participation in the Escuela FLORA independent study program in the same period.
The selected artist engages herself/himself to the following:
-Use the studio at FLORA for a maximum of 6 months, respecting FLORA’sAcuerdo de voluntades /Manual de convivencia which must be signed before the beginning of the residency.
-Accept and sign an agreement with the rules and considerations regarding the use of the studio and the status of the works produced during the residency, in accordance to Colombian law.
-Attend all the activities of Escuela FLORA, which include studio visits, seminars and reading groups. In case the artist needs to leave, the maximum will be two weeks, and must be announced and justified a month prior.
-Conceive a presentation of the process/results at the end of the residency. This presentation will be done in the studio. FLORA will do its best to accommodate the needs of the project, provided it does not go against the integrity of the space or Colombian law. FLORA will not produce exhibitions nor give production money.
REQUIREMIENTS
1.Fill in the Application form
The form must be competed online.
2. Do a brief presentation of recent works.
Describe in maximum 300 words the ideas behind your work in a way that helps the juries understand its themes, preoccupations and intentions.
3. Include 5 images of recent works
Send a dossier with five images of recent works, each with a brief description as a caption. Videos must be uploaded to Youtube o Vimeo so the juries do not have to download them and there are no compatibility issues. Write the appropriate links and passwords to the videos on the dossier.
THE APPLICANT MUST:
-Compile all documentation in a single PDF smaller than 10 MB, identifying the file with the name of the artist. Send the documentation to the following email address: info@arteflora.org

-Write in the Subject line and in the name of the file the following:
Boreal Grant / Name of the applicant
Don’t exceed the deadline (April 15, 2016 at 23:00 Colombian time).
FLORA will publish a list of the applications three days after the deadline. The name of the selected artist will be posted on our website on May 15, 2016.
The selected artist or curator authorizes FLORA to use photos of their work for educational and documentation matters.
The application expresses the acceptance of the terms of the grant and of the jury’s verdict, which is final.
Once chosen, the artist or curator must:
-Apply for funding, for instance to the Danish Art Foundation.
-Apply for a visa at the Colombian Consulate in Denmark
Finally, it is important to:
– Not send your files in separate emails.
– Compile everything in a single PDF file.
– Identify properly the file you send.
– Don’t send files that exceed 10MB, and upload videos to Youtube or Vimeo.
